Vote on Cohasset’s Amended Town Manager Act Delayed until 2014
Selectmen vote 5-0 to delay Senate vote on the Amended Town Manager Act and correct the typos. According to Select chair Fred Koed a final vote on the Act will not take place until some time in 2014. Although Selectman Martha Gjesteby said the Senate does have some informal sessions scheduled in December.
The Senate was prepared to vote on Cohasset’s Amended Town Manager Act Tuesday, Nov. 19 until it discovered a typo in the act and asked selectmen what they wanted to do. The intent of the typo was obvious, a scrivener’s error (that can be corrected by oral evidence) and town counsel said the town could vote to let it go forward and change it during the next ‘round of changes to the Act.
The typo would have made the town manager the hiring agent for all town employees where it should have said he would hire the town accountant, and police and fire chiefs.
Select vice chair Diane Kennedy said : “We have to correct it.” A motion by Kennedy instructed Koed to sign a letter to the Senate counsel recommending one of the two correcting motions offered. Koed said he will ask for town counsel’s advice on the matter.
