SS Genealogical Society meets Saturday

RicMurphypngThe South Shore Genealogical Society May meeting will be held Saturday, May 9th at 1:30 p.m. at the John Curtis Free Library, Rt. 139, 534 Hanover St. Hanover, MA. The featured speaker is Mr. Ric Murphy, who will speak about his family’s Massachusetts history and its connection to Cuffee Lane in Norwell.

Ric Murphy is an educator, businessman, philanthropist, political analyst and accomplished author of several historical publications. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts. His family lineage dates to the earliest colonial periods of Plymouth, Massachusetts, and of Jamestown, Virginia. Murphy’s lineage has been evaluated and accepted by the Daughters of the American Revolution, the National Society of the Sons of Colonial New England, the Sons of the American Revolution, and the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War. In his writings, Murphy explores the roles and rich contributions made by African Americans in United States history.

Murphy was formerly a teacher, principal, Assistant Community Superintendent and on the Superintendent’s Executive Staff for the Boston Public Schools. He was the former State Purchasing Agent of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Director of the Department of Procurement and Adminstrative Services for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; and was the Director of Administrative Services for the District of Columbia. He currently is the President of North American Management. Mr. Murphy was a Senior Executive Fellow at Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government; and has a Masters in Urban Affairs from Boston University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Massachusetts. Mr. Murphy has served on numerous national, local and not-for-profit Boards of Directors including hospital and federally qualified community health centers, as well as Advisory Boards to community and educational based organizations. He lives and works in metropolitan Washington, D.C.
