South Shore Recycling Cooperative member towns will host one more household hazardous waste collection this spring. It will be held at the Scituate Highway Dept., 68 Captain Pierce Rd., May 31 from 9 am-1 pm. Scituate and Cohasset residents may attend the event at no charge.
Residents of member towns Abington, Duxbury, Hanover, Hanson, Hingham, Kingston, Middleboro, Norwell, Plymouth, Rockland, Weymouth and Whitman, may attend this collection at their home town’s expense. To do so, bring a signed Authorization Form from your town’s Board of Health (Abington, Hanson, Norwell, Rockland, Whitman), Marine and Environmental Affairs (Plymouth) or DPW (all others). Some towns may limit subsidized quantities to 15 gal. or 30 lb.
Any visitors without an Authorization Form may attend for a fee of $44 /15 gal or 30 lbs of waste. Commercial generators, call ahead to 1-617-852-3086 to arrange disposal and payment. Please bring a check.

Bring: Oil based paint, stains, solvents, gasoline, automotive fluids, pesticides, photography and pool chemicals, acids, bases, and poisons in secure, labeled containers.
Do not bring: industrial, pathological and medical waste, electronics, flares, radioactive materials, pressurized gas cylinders or explosives. Go to ssrcoop.info, click on “Other Stuff”.
Propane tanks, motor oil, antifreeze, medical sharps, auto & rechargeable batteries, and fluorescent lamps are collected regularly by many towns and retailers. Residents should use those services if available. Go to ssrcoop.info, click on “Member Towns”.
Latex paint and driveway sealer are messy, but not hazardous. If not recyclable as described below, absorb liquid with cat litter and dispose in trash.
Usable leftover latex paint is accepted and recycled into new paint products at The Paint Exchange LLC of North Scituate for a fee of $2/can. To see if your paint qualifies for recycling, and for hours of operation, go to ssrcoop.info/, click on “Latex Paint”, or call 781-545-1272.
