Meet the Artist: Laura Harvey-Running with Scissors or the Art of Collage
Marshfield artist Laura Harvey will share her mixed media paintings and collages at the 9/14/14 session of the SAA’s Meet the Artist Series held at the Scituate Public Library. She has also promised to allow those attending a chance to do an interactive project. Laura’s works are as unique and varied as the materials she uses to create them; her intuitive pieces often feature a quirky blend of the mundane and the truly bizarre. Harvey employs a variety of acrylic mediums, vintage and painted papers, photographs, fabric, and found objects in her artwork. Laura currently is the guest artist at the SAA’s Front Street Art Gallery through Sunday, September 28th.
An award-winning artist and instructor, the path to this point in her art career is as varied as her art – a year at Mass College of Art, an Associate’s Degree in culinary arts from Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island, and then finally, a membership at North River Arts Society courtesy of her mother-in-law, artist Carolyn Harvey. What followed was a successful decorative painting career; her hand painted furniture and home furnishings were sold in several specialty shops around the South Shore, Boston and Cape Cod. While she still enjoys transforming trash into treasures, Harvey chose to develop her skill in mixed media collage as well as serving as the Education Administrator/Director at the North River Arts Society in Marshfield.
Her presentation will be held on Wednesday, September 24 from 7 to 9 pm in the Scituate Public Library’s Meeting Room.
