Archishop Williams High School looking for Host Families

Imagine yourself surrounded by classmates who speak a foreign language in a country 7,000 miles away from where you call home. What would you do? Our students experience this every day.

Notre Dame Academy (NDA) in Hingham and Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree are home to 29 Chinese students exploring an international education. Highly motivated and high-achieving, they enroll in the same classes as American students. In addition to a rigorous course load, they also participate and excel in extracurricular activities such as choir, the drama club, and school sports.

These international students come to the United States to earn a US high school diploma and to ultimately enroll in an American college or university. The seniors have set their sights high and are eagerly awaiting their acceptances in April.

While they’re here, students live with host families who are integral to the acculturation process. Host families provide a safe and supportive environment for students, immersing them into their daily routines and welcoming them into their families. Both schools have partnered with gphomestay, a residential services provider located in Waltham. Gphomestay looks for families who are within a 30-minute commute of the school and can commit to 10 months of hosting (the academic school year). In addition, hosts need to provide transportation to and from school, 3 meals per day and a private bedroom for the student. In return, families receive ongoing support from a local staff member, training, a monthly stipend and an unforgettable experience. This is a wonderful opportunity for any family interested in broadening their cultural horizon!

Next year, Archbishop Williams will have up to 30 international students while Notre Dame Academy will have up to 15. For more information on becoming a host family,  please visit To begin the application process, please go to:  You may also contact us by phone at 781-996-0429 or by email at
